It will send a message of yours to specified addresses. Mailer can also be used for aggregate delivery of e-mails to people you want to let know something. For example the teacher announces a lecture won't take place today to his students.
These addresses then don't cause mess in the address book of your e-mail client, but you can easily send e-mails to them and they are always accessible.
